Photography Love
Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 9:38AM I can only assume that my mother shot this photograph. It is my older sister, Cheri, shot sometime in the very early 1950s in my home town of Muskegon, Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan. What's not to like here? Great subject, cute face looking directly into camera, the outfit is precious, the slight movement of the hand and that great bucket with the cartoon elephant, perfect. The composition is excellent also, her sitting just slightly behind the small ridge of sand, the framing of the slide over her head, the soft focus activity in the background, what is the couple on the bench thinking about? This shot is everything good about old black and white photography, one chance to catch the shot, no digital photography, no Photoshop. Oh, and did I mention the love? It floats out of this image like a warm summer day at the beach.
